The Season for Accountability

Indeed the season has arrived. And I don't mean for shopping, feasting, and parties (although this is indeed also true). I mean it's the season for that much misunderstood and over-used concept of ACCOUNTABILITY. How can you tell? For me, it's when I start to hear that word in almost every conversation I have regarding planning that was done as well as planning that needs to be done. So, just like there are abundant resources offering ways to cope with this stressful holiday time, I have here 4 tips about how to approach this wonderful time of year when we look both behind and ahead and inevitably wonder if we were and will be accountable to things we intend to do. Tip #1: Don't Assume Expectations are Clear

You cannot expect accountability without first setting clear expectations. Sounds logical, right? Perhaps so logical that many people assume that expectations are clear just because they've been shared. This is a big mistake. It is usually the first thing I come upon when working with a group that is striving to work in different ways towards a common goal: we weren't clear on the expectations and we needed to start working somewhere, so we started with what we thought was right. It's amazing, all the combinations of solutions we humans can think of when it comes to different ways to get something done. It's truly a beautiful thing...unless there are expectations to do it a specific way, perhaps one that is in alignment with a budget, or time frame, or shared team work. Be as clear as
